Town of Tonawanda, NY - Officer and Driver Hurt in Crash on Sheridan Dr

Town of Tonawanda, NY (June 1, 2025) — A serious crash involving a police vehicle was reported on Friday evening in the Town of Tonawanda. Around 8:40 p.m. on May 30, a Town of Tonawanda Police Department patrol car was involved in a collision at the intersection of Sheridan Drive and Niagara Falls Boulevard.

According to officials, Officer Kayleigh Stack was traveling in response to an emergency call when her patrol vehicle and a 2011 Toyota Highlander collided. The Highlander was operated by 52-year-old Pah Du, a resident of the City of Buffalo.

A 2 On Your Side photojournalist captured images from the scene, revealing extensive damage to both vehicles, including the police cruiser. Emergency crews responded swiftly, and both the officer and Mr. Du were transported to Kenmore Mercy Hospital. They were treated for minor injuries and have since been released.

The Town of Tonawanda Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

We hope those injured in this accident recover fully and rapidly.

Car Accidents in New York

Car accidents are a significant concern across New York, with thousands of incidents reported each year. In fact, the New York State Department of Health states that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury-related deaths and hospitalizations. Many crashes result in long-term consequences for those involved. Whether in urban areas or smaller towns, collisions can impact victims’ lives in numerous ways.

Understanding the various injuries that can result from accidents is essential:

  • Whiplash: Whiplash is one of the most common injuries suffered in a collision. This soft tissue injury occurs when the neck is forcibly jolted back and forth. While it might seem minor, whiplash can cause persistent pain and limited mobility if not properly treated.
  • Fractures: The force of an accident can easily lead to broken bones. Fractures often require surgery and prolonged periods of immobilization, severely impacting the ability to work or perform daily activities.
  • Concussions: Head injuries such as concussions are frequently sustained in car accidents. Even a seemingly light bump can lead to serious brain trauma, affecting memory, concentration, and overall cognitive function.
  • Spinal Cord Injuries: Damage to the spinal cord can result in permanent disabilities. Depending on the severity, victims might face a lifetime of challenges and need continuous medical care.

If you were involved in an accident, contacting a dedicated car accident attorney can make a significant difference. An attorney will work to ensure your rights are protected and help secure the compensation you deserve for medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering. It is important to act quickly following an accident to preserve evidence and build a strong case.
